Challenge 9: Days to Fearless Challenge πŸ’ͺ

Let me start by saying I am so brave when it comes starting new things but such a baby when it comes to doing things that are usually thrills for others. I don’t like pain and try hard to steer clear of it most times. I often struggle trying to decipher through which of the things that I am afraid of that I should push through and try, and which ones could be my conscience/the Holy Spirit telling me this is not for me. I also get nervous doing things that are good for me which is actually a growing pain needed. I heard recently that there is a level of uncomfortability that is needed for growth. An example is a new job or promotion. There is a level of being unsure and nervous of what’s to come. But that is a good level of fear that often can be used to fuel great effort and success. You may be on time and try really hard to be seen as an asset not be too scared and not show up anymore, essentially giving up. Of course not!!! So, I decided to do a thirty days to fearless challenge for a few reasons. One reason, is because I think that there has been some challenges in my past and current life that make me fearful of the future, which could alter my future negatively. Another reason, is because I should learn to trust God more ultimately and give my fears over to him.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you” Psalm 56:3

It is like being on a ledge standing over a large pit. You have to decide how to get to the other side. You may have to overcome the instant fear you may feel over the consequences of a misstep or what it means if you actually can’t get across. So contemplation begins. You may say something like “do I move forward step by step then stretch across to the other side? Or do I leap across to the other side?” I say either way I have to know that God is waiting on the other side to catch me. Having a God’s eye view is to see things like God sees and know he has control. He sees both sides of the ledge and what is inside the pit as well. So our outlook should include moving forward and not looking back in fear because God is with us wherever we go. During this challenge, I tried some new things including doing somethings by myself that I am usually uncomfortable with like being the fifth wheel or going solo to the movies twice. Doing a presentation in front of a large crowd, starting a new hobby, and standing up to others who have wronged me. I begin to pray heavily and to even claim God’s territory over my home, my job, and my relationships. As a result, it helped me to stand up for myself without needing to be agressive, but instead use my words more effectively. I also made some life plans of making some changes that I was avoiding due to being afraid of the consequences. Furthermore, I started this article before the Corona Virus outbreak of 2019/2020. But these words hold true especially during these trying and unsure times. We are standing over a pit of darkness which represents the virus. We are trying to get to the other side that includes resuming the normalcy of our lives or a new way of life. This virus is new and evolving but it will not take away our faith and hope for life. I choose not to fear and instead be fearless during this time by putting my fear and my life in God’s hands. He will take over and take the fear away. He even clearly says…

“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” Isaiah 41:10

It is unknown what will happen next. Moment by moment, day by day, month by month. For the first time ever, as an educator schools are closed indefinitely, communities are “hunkering” down and the world is unprecedentedly shutting down around us. All to try to combat the effects of the virus so it doesn’t spread. There are no guarantees and people are getting infected and dying everyday. But we will overcome! We may need to spend sometime indoors and not congregate with others publicly but let us still have a sense of community in trusting God. It is like preparing for war, we must prepare for the virus while training our faith muscles. He knows all sides and there is a God’s view to focus on. The past, the present, and the future are all in his view and he will see us through, so have no fear!!!
